The moment you have all been waiting for — and quite possibly you did not even know it — is finally here: A new version of my textbook “Algorithmic Mass Spectrometry: From molecules to masses and back again” has been released!
Not much has happened sind April 2022, when I released the last version of the textbook; in particular, I could not find anyone who wanted to help me finish writing it. Yet, in October 2026, it appeared to me that there is one “person”, one entity that I can ask for help and that cannot turn me down: Claude. Claude can do so many things that a scientist can do, including pretending to have read a paper when in fact, he (are they a he?) has only read the abstract. Claude is pretty good with words, and his English is definitely better than mine: I just learned that “lucky punch” is a Germanism. Whaaaat?!
Long story short: I will finish the book, but with the help of Claude. New versions will come out whenever I find a day to sit down to check all the changes that Claude made. And, my Claudeberries ™ did not run out. We start with version 0.9.0 where Claude has just checked and corrected my bad writing, for the most part. In version 0.9.1 we will continue with a fact-checked version; Claude is already done with it but this will need more time from my side. Finally, starting with version 0.9.2, we will close the holes. I plan to put a clear warning to all subsections that Claude has written — ok, I plan to tell Claude to do that. As usual, all comments and corrections are welcome!
Shiny, Sebastian.
